How to disable Messenger service. Are you getting MSN messenger service pop ups? A grey box that can appear as a warning or a solution to a problem you apparently have, these are in fact nothing more than an advertisement. The companies that use this as a way of promoting their products are usually of bad reputation or inferior products.
Messenger service pop ups look like this.
Messenger services are a different application and service to the instant messenger services used for chatting. They are intended to be a way of people sending short messages within their network, e.g., their place of work.
Unfortunately, they also allow anyone to send spam messages which are not only annoying, they can be a security risk.
In order for these to work, a port must be opened to allow them to be sent. This port is set open by Microsoft by default.
Companies selling advertisements, or a company with its own software, can ping a computer's port, with messenger enabled it will respond and accept the message/advert. With messenger disabled, port will not respond, and no message/advertisement will be accepted by the computer.
Several viruses and trojans also look for computers with this port open.
